Their relationship started over a Christmas Card. David and Elysia have known each other for over six years, after meeting at their church, but it wasn’t until David moved to Arizona that their feelings for each other changed. The year that David had moved, Elysia decided to send him a Christmas card, since she knew most of his family was living in Africa and he wouldn’t be with them on that day. This kind gesture was the start to some long conversations that turned into a beautiful long-distance relationship.
A little over a year later, David came up to Wisconsin to visit, with the plan to propose. After taking Elysia to a nice restaurant in Hudson on a frigid January evening, David drove them down to the pier where he asked if they could take some pictures by the Christmas lights down by the river. Once they arrived at the right spot, they took a couple quick photos on their phone, due to the extreme cold, and then David surprised her by going down on one knee to propose.
David officially moved to Wisconsin and the two of them set out to plan their wedding at Elysia’s parent’s gorgeous farm in River Falls. Since David’s family couldn’t get to the United States for the wedding, they live-streamed their beautiful ceremony and the pastor spoke in David’s native language for part of the ceremony, which was so amazing.
Their wedding day was about as perfect as it could be! Elysia wore David’s grandma’s earrings and wedding band and she and her bridesmaids all made their own bouquets! What a stunning bride! The joy that everyone had at the wedding celebration was so contagious! The dance floor came to life, as young and old danced together late into the evening.
Something that really stood out to me when, it came to their ceremony, was that Elysia walked down to the same exact song I walked down to on my wedding day. The song was, “Jessica’s Theme Song” from the movie, The Man From Snowy River. Not only did she walk down to that song, but we were able to capture a photo that looks like it could be right off the front cover of the movie later that evening. I felt like we were capturing photos for the main characters out of the movie. Enjoy just a few of the many moments from their special day below.
